Adult snails are often greater than 1.5

inches in length, the shell is typically light to dark olive green, and have uniform coloring on the shell (no banding).

The best time of the year to monitor for mystery snails is late summer, along the shoreline. 

Infected fish develop prominent, raised red sores, bleeding lesions, and large tumor-like masses. These are typically found on the body, fins, and near the pelvic fin. The disease can affect up to 35% of the crappie population in certain lakes. Never return an affected crappie to the water, as this risks infecting other fish.

Curly-leaf is best removed early in the spring (May-June) because it forms hardened structures called turions at the tips of the stem that will fall off and grow new plants. It typically dies off completely in early July and grows again in the fall.
